Swish pans are a popular choice for transitions in television programs. Andy’s Swish Transitions brings this effect into AE and won’t cost you a dime:

Pan and Zoom is another FXFactory based After Effects plugin. This effect simplifies the process of creating a slideshow or giving your photos/videos the classic “Ken Burns” effects. Add motion to your images/video in After Effects without having to create keyframes:

CoverFlux 2 is a neat After Effects plugin that allows you to quickly create a coverflow style slideshow – perfect for showcasing images or creating a highlight video. You may recognize the coverflow look from iTunes or Mac OSX Finder:

VFX Bro: Camera Shake and Camera Shake Pro

Our friend Aaron at VFXBro.com has created several free After Effects plugins for manipulating your footage.

Real Camera Shake is a preset that can add realistic camera movement to your still video shots. This is ideal for footage that requires a handheld look but may not have been shot that way. Real Camera Shake Pro applies similar effect but to a virtual camera inside of After Effects. DOWNLOAD both here.

Coremelt EQ Animator and Plugin Pack

Coremelt makes industry leading plugins for After Effects and video editing apps. Luckily, they give away two products FREE.

VeeYou is an After Effects plugin that reacts to audio in your project. Apply these EQ, VU, analog dials and waveform generators to an audio layer in AE. Watch as the visuals react to the sound. DOWNLOAD

VideoCopilot Free AE Presets

Aside from being a fantastic online training resource, Andrew Kramer from VideoCopilot.net has made available 15 free After Effects presets. Among the presets are film grains, day for night color preset, a reflection plugin (great for logos) and a tool for better controlling the AE 3D camera. AEFlame: Free Fractal Plugin for AE

Aescripts.com is a great resource for the latest After Effects tools. The following plugin, AE Flame, alows you to create beautiful fractal images in AE. DOWNLOAD

Cineblur’s Instagram Plugin

Premiumbeat blogger Brent Pierce created a set of AE color filters that mimic the looks popularized by Instagram. With one-click you can apply these looks to your video – great for experimenting with your footage. DOWNLOAD

Digital Typewriter Text Preset

If you’re working on a project with futuristic or Internet-related content this free After Effects plugin may come in handy. Typominal creates a ‘digital typewriter’ look, characteristic of Apple’s Terminal or MS-DOS. See our previous post on this AE plugin or go here to DOWNLOAD.

It’s hard to believe another year has already come and gone. This year has seen some incredible advancements in the VFX industry. We’ve covered so many new VFX tools and plugins on our blog throughout the course of the year, so we’re here to help you keep track of the top six that we found most exciting.

These are in no particular order, but we’ve touched on how they have all significantly pushed the envelope for VFX in 2019.

6. Rapidly Construct Environments in UE4 with Brushify.io

Epic’s Unreal Engine 4 has evolved far beyond its utility as a game engine, now becoming a staple in the VFX industry for pre-visualization, real-time VFX, and Virtual Production. Environment design can be a time-consuming prospect for UE4 users. Luckily Brushify.io makes the process so much easier!Brushify.io’s terrain toolkit allows you to quickly produce everything from lush forests to canyons, deserts, mountains, icy tundras, and everything in between. 5. Remove Blemishes and Small Objects with Spot Clone Tracker

Red Giant’s VFX Suitelaunched with an array of incredible tools, including Spot Clone Tracker.

4. Use 3D Camera Tracking in HitFilm Pro

The function of one of After Effects’ most technically impressive tools made its way to HitFilm earlier this year in the form of HitFilm Pro’s 3D Camera Tracker.
HitFilm Pro’s 3D Camera Tracker was huge news for users of the comprehensive software package from FXhome, and it’s yet another great reason to love the industry’s most affordable and feature-rich VFX software.

3. Generate Photorealistic VFX with Megascans

The work being done by the folks at Quixel to democratize photogrammetry for visual effects is unbelievable. 2. Remove Virtually Anything with Content-Aware Fill for Video in After Effects

One of the most pleasant surprises of Adobe’s spring 2019 Creative Cloud update was Content-Aware Fill for Video in After Effects.
It works just like Content-Aware Fill in Photoshop and allows you to even import a frame into Photoshop and manually adjust it to your heart’s content before round-tripping it back to After Effects for Adobe’s Sensei AI technology to use as a reference for the object removal.

1. Polish Your Scene to Perfection with VFX Supercomp

A poorly-composited shot can ruin a lot of great VFX work. Even the smallest details can make or break an otherwise solid visual effects shot.
